About Lysebu
Lysebu was originally built in 1916 as a private cabin designed by Magnus Poulsson, inspired by the royal manors in Norwegian fairy tales. After the Second World War, Lysebu was donated as a gesture from Norway to Denmark - a thank you for the humanitarian help Denmark had provided during the war.
Lysebu is owned by the Foundation for Danish-Norwegian Cooperation, which works for cultural exchange and understanding between Denmark and Norway.
Lysebu has a significant art collection. In 2007 the foundation entered into a collaboration with Henie Onstad Art Center, which includes 84 works by 28 Norwegian and Danish artists working in various techniques. The collection is supplemented by the foundation's own works including pieces by Edvard Munch, I.C. Dahl, Per Kirkeby and Dyre Vaa.
Activities
For those of you staying longer: Enjoy the days with a cup of coffee by the fireplace or in the hotel's wellness area. If you prefer a more active day, there are plenty of opportunities for that as well. Lysebu is located 500 meters above sea level, with the forest right outside the door. This provides fantastic opportunities for outdoor experiences. Here are our recommendations:
Holmenkollen Ski Jump and Museum
The "Roseslottet" art installation
Cross-country skiing in Nordmarka (Skiforeningen.no)
Alpine skiing at Oslo Winter Park
Tobogganing on the "Korketrekkeren"
Snowshoe hiking
Frognerseteren Restaurant
Cinnamon bun spots: Tryvannstua, Ullevålseter, Kikutstua, Skjennungstua
